Rugby NY Met NY All-Stars Split Games in NY Ironworkers Junior Foundry Challenge

Last weekend, the Rugby NY Metropolitan Boys All-Stars played in the NY Ironworkers Junior Foundry challenge and split games versus Rugby New Jersey and Rugby Connecticut.

The MET NY team opened with a 46-7 win over Rugby NJ and lost to a very strong Connecticut team.

Players for the MET NY squad were chosen from over 50 players nominated by their coaches to try out for the squad.

Of the 26 players selected, eight (8) were from Rugby NY State High School Runners-up Pelham and seven (7) were from Rugby NY State High School Champions Xavier. Four (4) represented Play Rugby Academy and three (3) from Division 2 Warwick Highlanders. Rye, St. Anthony’s and Fordham Prep were represented by one player each.

Standout players over the weekend were Michael Rooney, Liam Bruckner, Maseah Young, Emir Yuksel, Davitt Barrett and Jake O'Donnell in the Rugby New Jersey game and Laszlo Somlay, Eamonn O'Reilly, Sean Donohue, Jayden Matos and Anthony Dabao versus Connecticut.


Rugby NY MET Boys All-Stars were coached by Ski Bailey (Xavier) who was assisted by James O’Hara (Rye) and Tim Downey (Pelham). Matt Persanis (Pelham and Rugby NY President) was Director of Operations.


Rugby NY would like to thank the AC Foundation for its sponsorship, including providing player kits, which allowed us to eliminate costs to the athletes which has hindered participation in the past. AC Foundation is the charitable arm of New York Athletic Club Rugby.
